The Hyundai Kona has a place at the top of many customers' lists of ideal vehicles. This compact SUV works well on so many levels, and it's a popular choice amongst the people who come to visit us at Ettleson Hyundai in Countryside, IL. Most of the drivers who walk through our doors want to have options when it comes to buying a vehicle, even if they've decided on the Kona. Fortunately, the Hyundai Kona comes in five different trims.

The SE is our base model, and it attracts a lot of attention because of its very competitive starting price. The SE runs on a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine that delivers ample horsepower and torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available. Inside the SE, you'll find cloth seats, a seven-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and numerous safety systems. Those include driver-assist technology like forward collision-avoidance assist, driver attention warning, and lane-keeping assist. Further, the SE has remote keyless entry and automatic headlights.

Moving up to the SEL will get you some notable additions. For example, you'll have the very convenient Proximity Key entry system with push-button start. You'll also have a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, an external temperature display, HD Radio, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and heated front seats. All of these are on par with what you'd expect from a higher-end vehicle, and the best part is that the SEL is offered for only a slightly higher price than the SE. Other upgrades in the SEL are blind-spot monitoring, rear privacy glass, roof side rails, and lane change assist.

The SEL Plus is the next level, and it takes things to the next level with front fog lights, a power sunroof, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support. Its technology is enhanced, as it has wireless charging, the Blue Link remote package, and an Infinite Premium Audio system with eight speakers.

The top two trims, which are the Limited and Ultimate, are intriguing choices because they have turbocharged engines with significantly more horsepower and torque. They also have dual-clutch transmissions that give them a more sporty feel. A bonus is that driving with the turbocharged engine doesn't mean that your efficiency is affected in any significant way. Both the standard engine and the turbocharged one can achieve an estimated mileage of 30 (combined) miles per gallon. When an all-wheel drivetrain is installed, efficiency drops slightly to 28 mpg with the standard engine and 27 mpg on the Limited and Ultimate trims.

On the Limited, there are some luxury upgrades. Headlights and taillights get upgraded with LEDs, the seats are trimmed in leather, the climate control system is changed to an automatic one, and the rearview mirror has auto-dimming capability and HomeLink technology. Plus, instead of the 17-inch wheels that the SEL Plus rides on, the Limited sits on 18-inch wheels that stand out.

The Ultimate has the most high-quality components, making it truly a pleasure to drive around Downers Grove and Tinley Park. Some features exclusive to the Ultimate are smart cruise control, a heads-up display, an eight-inch touchscreen with navigation, automatic high beams, and a warning system to help you with parking.
